ST. THOMAS — A woman is facing multiple domestic violence charges after allegedly stabbing her ex-boyfriend during an altercation in April.

The incident took place on April 24. According to the victim, he returned home from work around 11:00 a.m. to find his ex-girlfriend, Genise Thomas, standing outside his residence in Frydendahl. The man told police that he and Ms. Thomas had dated for approximately three months, but had ended their relationship several months prior.

He explained that upon seeing Ms. Thomas, he paused the phone call he was on and placed his phone in his pocket, asking the person on the other end to keep listening.

Ms. Thomas initially approached him and blocked his path, the man told officers. Despite his attempts to go around her, she continued to prevent him from entering his home.

The man said he resumed speaking with his friend, taking the phone out of his pocket. At that point, Ms. Thomas allegedly grabbed his shirt and began tugging on it. He said he pushed her hand away, after which she escalated the confrontation by punching him and then pulling a knife.

The man reported being stabbed at least once before managing to escape and run toward the main road. Ms. Thomas reportedly followed him and threw rocks and debris picked up from the roadside as he fled. He contacted a friend, who gave him a ride to the hospital.

Medical staff determined the man had been stabbed twice in the left arm. He required stitches to close the wounds and was advised to return for further care.

Following the incident, investigators published a wanted poster for Ms. Thomas on social media. She eventually turned herself in on Sunday, July 13. After declining to give a statement, she was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and simple assault as acts of domestic violence, as well as use of a dangerous weapon and disturbance of the peace. She was remanded into custody to await her first court appearance.

During a hearing on Monday, Magistrate Paula Norkaitis found probable cause for all charges and set bail at $15,000, requiring 10% cash to secure release.

If released, Ms. Thomas must report to the probation office by phone each week and surrender her passport. She must stay at least 100 feet away from her ex-boyfriend at all times and is prohibited from visiting his home, workplace, or following him in a vehicle. Ms. Thomas is also barred from possessing firearms, ammunition, or dangerous weapons, and from consuming alcohol or controlled substances.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for August 1.
