The Virgin Islands Police Department has not released a mugshot of Damian Defoe.
ST. THOMAS — A man who reportedly sideswiped a utility pole before crashing into a parked car is facing charges in the V.I. Superior Court.
According to court documents, police dispatched to the scene of a reported auto collision on Bjerge Gade found a silver sedan that appeared to have crashed into a water pipe near a home. The occupant of the house told police that the car had crashed into her home and vehicle, causing damage.
The driver of the silver Honda Accord was leaning against the vehicle. When officers went to speak to him, they reportedly smelled alcohol and noticed the driver's red, watery eyes. Police say the man – identified as Damian Defoe – was slurring his speech and fell to the ground when attempting to perform the standardized field sobriety tests.
Defoe was taken to the Richard Callwood Command Station where a chemical breath test reportedly failed because he could not blow adequately into the machine, according to police reports.
Officers say he admitted to having a couple of drinks, but Defoe reportedly declined to tell them how much he had consumed. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, negligent driving, operating a motor vehicle without registration, and operating a motor vehicle without valid insurance.
Defoe was able to pay his $1500 bail, and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
