ST. CROIX — Detectives from the V.I. Police Department's Economic Crimes Unit have arrested 59-year-old Eva Ramon following an investigation into allegations of financial exploitation. The investigation, which began on February 7, 2023, revealed that Ramon had fraudulently taken out a $275,000 loan in her elderly father’s name, leading to significant financial losses.

According to authorities, Ramon had been named as her father's power of attorney and used this position to manipulate and deceive her father and the complainant. She falsely represented the loan as being for her father, convincing the complainant to make payments on the loan using the father's account. The loan was intended to pay off her mortgage, which was in foreclosure, not for her father’s benefit.

Further investigation uncovered that Ramon had withdrawn $9,601.32 in cash, as well as taken $18,000 in Banco Popular Official checks and a $12,292.88 certificate of deposit (CD), all of which belonged to her father. Authorities say the total financial loss caused by Ramon’s actions amounted to $122,292.88, which she had taken for her personal gain.

On September 9, 2024, Ramon voluntarily turned herself in at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station, where she was served with an arrest warrant. She was charged with financial exploitation of an elderly person or dependent adult, obtaining money by false pretense, and grand larceny.

Ramon was processed and booked, with bail set at $20,000. She was allowed to post 10 percent of the bail and released pending her Advice of Rights hearing.

The investigation into the matter is ongoing as authorities work to ensure justice for the victim.
