ST. CROIX — A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a March shooting in Estate Carlton, the V.I. Police Department confirmed Sunday.

According to the VIPD, the incident occurred on March 1, 2025, at approximately 6:18 p.m., when ShotSpotter technology detected 13 rounds of gunfire in the Estate Carlton area. Shortly thereafter, the 911 Emergency Call Center reported that shots had been fired at a male victim who was reportedly on his way to the police station to file a report at the time of the incident.

Following an investigation, VIPD detectives obtained a search and arrest warrant from the Superior Court on June 27. Two days later, on June 29, officers from the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Special Operations Bureau executed the warrants and apprehended the suspect, identified as Ajani Poree.

Upon arrest, Poree was read his Miranda Rights and formally charged with a range of serious offenses, including first-degree attempted murder, third-degree assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, possession of ammunition, discharging or aiming firearms, and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Poree was booked but unable to post his $100,000 bail, and has since been transported to the John A. Bell Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility, where he is being held pending his Advice of Rights Hearing scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, in Superior Court.
