ST. CROIX — A man was arrested on domestic violence allegations after a woman accused him of pulling a knife on her during a physical assault.
The woman went to police on Wednesday, claiming that Erron Wallace assaulted her earlier in the week.
According to court documents, she and Wallace had gotten into an intimate relationship about three months ago, the woman told officers. Things progressed quickly and the pair have been living together for approximately one month.
However, the woman said that at the beginning of the week, Wallace accused her of being unfaithful. An argument erupted, during which he reportedly put her on the bed and held her down, squeezing her neck and cutting off her airflow.
The woman said she believed she would die. As the assault continued, Wallace reportedly dragged her onto the floor and punched her several times in the arm, and at least once in the stomach, which caused her to vomit.
At some point the sustained assault moved to the living room, where Wallace reportedly used a t-shirt as a tool of strangulation, causing the woman to feel dizzy and start gasping for air, according to the affidavit. Towards the end of the ordeal, the woman told police that her boyfriend grabbed a kitchen knife and brandished it at her, threatening to stab her with the blade.
The woman declined medical assistance for her numerous abrasions on her face and bruises to her shoulder, chest, hand, thigh and back.
Wallace was swiftly arrested and charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault and simple assault and battery, all as crimes of domestic violence, as well as carrying or using dangerous weapons and disturbance of the peace by fighting. He was remanded into custody to await his advice of rights hearing, which was scheduled for Thursday morning before Magistrate Venetia Velazquez.
As of press time, however, court records do not reflect whether that hearing was indeed held.
