ST. CROIX — A man was arrested this week on child abuse charges stemming from an incident in February of this year.

According to police, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a child being abused at the end of February, and officers were dispatched to investigate the complaint.

They learned that Kareem George had allegedly used a length of PVC piping to assault his minor daughter in the name of discipline. The child was reportedly left with visible injuries.

It wasn't until early September that an arrest warrant was issued by the courts, however. George eventually turned himself in this past Tuesday, October 14, and was charged with simple assault and battery, child abuse as a crime of domestic violence, and disturbance of the peace.

He was initially released on his own recognizance by Magistrate Venetia Velazquez, and appeared before her the following day for his advice of rights hearing.

In court on Wednesday, the judge set bail at $60,000, ordering that George be allowed to sign an unsecured bond for the full amount. At the same hearing, George pleaded not guilty to the charges before him, and requested a speedy trial. He was assigned a public defender to represent him.

George is next scheduled to appear in court on February 11, 2026 before before Judge Ernest Morris Jr.
