ST. THOMAS — A shots-fired incident outside a Subbase nightclub early Christmas morning led to the arrest of four men and the recovery of multiple firearms, ammunition, and spent shell casings, according to the V.I. Police Department.
VIPD said the incident occurred during the early morning hours of Thursday, December 25. At approximately 4:54 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area outside Encore Lounge following reports of gunfire. Upon arriving in the vicinity, officers located a vehicle matching the description provided by the 911 Emergency Call Center and initiated a traffic stop.
Police detained four male occupants during the stop. During the encounter, one individual fled the scene on foot and was observed discarding a firearm while attempting to evade officers. That suspect was subsequently apprehended without further incident.
Officers recovered multiple firearms, ammunition, and spent shell casings connected to the incident. The four individuals involved were identified as Kai Hendricks, Timori Bell, Shaqcoy Cheltenham, and Deshan Monsanto.
All four men were arrested and charged with multiple firearms-related offenses, including constructive possession of a firearm, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, reckless endangerment, and illegal discharge of a firearm. In addition to those charges, Kai Hendricks was also charged with evading arrest.
VIPD said that Bell, Cheltenham, and Monsanto were unable to post bail and were booked, processed, and remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending their Advice of Rights hearings. Hendricks, who required medical treatment prior to processing, was also booked and remanded to the Bureau of Corrections after receiving care.
The investigation into the incident remains active. VIPD is urging anyone with information related to the case to contact 911 or the Office of the Police Chief.
Police said the department remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the community as the investigation continues.
