Shooting on Midland Road Leaves One Injured, Vehicle Crashes with Minors on Board

A vehicle carrying two adults and two young minors crashed after being targeted by gunfire along Midland Road. A female passenger was injured, and the driver was arrested as authorities seek information on the suspects.

ST. CROIX — A shooting incident along Midland Road on Tuesday resulted in a vehicle collision and left one person with minor injuries, the V.I. Police Department has announced.

According to the release, at approximately 5:31 p.m., the Shot Spotter system detected 16 gunshots in the Mon Bijou area. A minute later, at 5:32 p.m., the system recorded five additional rounds fired in the Calquohoun area. Concerned citizens reported to the 911 Emergency Call Center that a vehicle was shooting at another vehicle while both were traveling west along Midland Road near Calquohoun.

The targeted vehicle lost control and crashed into a residential wall. Among the occupants, a female passenger suffered a grazed bullet wound to her left leg and was treated at the scene by Emergency Medical Technicians. The other four occupants—two adults and two young minors—were unharmed in both the shooting and subsequent crash.

During the response, VIPD officers identified the driver of the impacted vehicle, Callistus Ettiene, who was taken into custody by Superior Court Probation Office personnel for probation violation.

VIPD’s Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) is actively investigating the incident. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 778-2211, or Crime Stoppers VI at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
