The VIPD said that around 11:06 p.m. on Sunday, the 911 Emergency Call Center was alerted to gunshots fired near Rosies Bar, a separate establishment from the well-known Rosie's Bar & Restaurant located in Christiansted.
Responding swiftly to the emergency call, local law enforcement was dispatched to the scene. The information relayed by the dispatcher indicated a gunshot victim near the location. Upon arrival, officers were confronted with a harrowing sight: a black male lay on the ground in the gut, just south of the Credit Union building. The situation was dire, with the victim appearing to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body, according to the VIPD.
Emergency Medical Services personnel, who were already on the scene, conducted a prompt assessment, however they found no signs of life. Next of kin confirmed the identity as Jemmason Charles at 1:06 am. Charles, born on July 26, 1974, in St. Croix, was 49 years old.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the scene was secured by local authorities. The Department of Justice personnel took charge of removing Charles's remains from the scene. This incident, classified as first-degree murder, is now under investigation.
