ST. Thomas — Senior St. Thomas residents, at least one of whom is 72 years old, were injured by shattered glass when gunfire rang out near Jah Yard in the vicinity of the Fish Market, after a black male suspect started discharging shots at the victims' vehicle Tuesday night, the V.I. Police Department has confirmed to the Consortium.
According to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte, the incident occurred at about 5:01 p.m. Tuesday. The 911 Emergency Call Center immediately dispatched units to the scene to investigate the matter.
In the car were three victims who were not injured by gunshots but by the shattered glass when gunfire struck their vehicle, Mr. Dratte told the Consortium. Among the three victims were two seniors and another individual age 52. They were two females and one male, with the male victim being the most senior in age at 72, according to police. The victims were transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment.
No suspects were in custody as of Tuesday night, the V.I.P.D. said.
