Law enforcement in Puerto Rico on Friday accused one of their own of running over a female, municipal legislator.
The officer, who also allegedly abandoned the scene, faces several charges, among them destruction of evidence. He was being held on $300,000 bond, according to the Associated Press.
The incident occurred during the nighttime of Oct. 11 in the eastern mountain town of Las Piedras, the AP said.
The female legislator, identified as Norma Casanova Delgado, was injured during the incident and remains hospitalized.
According to Puerto Rico Police Chief Antonio López, the officer was expelled from the police department.
