ST. CROIX — A man was in critical condition following a shooting in Profit Hills Thursday evening, The Consortium has learned.
VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte subsequently confirmed the incident, saying the victim sustained at least two gunshot wounds and was transported by ambulance to Juan F. Luis Hospital.
Dratte said the man was breathing and able to speak when the call for assistance was made. Following his arrival at the hospital, preparations were being made for a possible medical airlift out of the territory for further treatment.
No suspect had been identified as of publication, and additional details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately available.
The incident comes amid continued gun violence across the U.S. Virgin Islands, where the homicide count stands at 39 for the year.
