ST. CROIX — A man is facing firearms charges after a warranted search of his home turned up two unlicensed handguns and multiple magazines and boxes of ammunition.
According to court records, in mid-October police investigating a burglary obtained a warrant to search the residence of Victor Murray III. They did so on October 22, approximately 10 minutes before 4 a.m.
Officers of the Special Operations Bureau entered Murray's Christiansted apartment and searched the living room, bedroom, and kitchen. In those locations, they found two guns: a Glock 26 pistol, and another gun of unknown make and model. They also found a plethora of ammunition in a range of sizes – .40 caliber, 9mm, .223 caliber – in magazines, boxes and bags.
After a records check confirmed that Murray did not have a license to carry a firearm or possess ammunition in the territory, he was arrested and charged with carrying firearms openly or concealed, and possession or sale of ammunition. Unable to meet the initial $50,000 bail requirement, he was remanded into custody to await his advice of rights hearing.
Court records available as of press time suggest that Murray did appear before Magistrate Yolan Brow Ross last Thursday, who ordered that he be released ahead of trial. However, details of bail conditions, and future hearing dates, have not yet been made available to the public.
