ST.  CROIX — V.I.P.D. officers on Saturday at about 11:20 p.m. arrested Jamale Griffin, age 38 of Enfield Green, and charged him with second-degree assault, domestic violence.

Griffin is employed as a police sergeant with the Virgin Islands Police Department. He has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the case.

According to police spokesman Toby Derima, an investigation into the incident revealed that Griffin allegedly assaulted a family member during a disagreement. Griffin was released into the custody of a third-party custodian pending his advisement hearing.

Police Commissioner Trevor Velinor reminded the community that there is no excuse for domestic violence, even when it is committed by police officers "My expectation is that all police officers will uphold the law and adhere to the laws of the territory. There are ways to resolve issues and domestic violence is not an acceptable option," the commissioner.
