ST. THOMAS — On Tuesday at roughly 4:49 p.m., officers who are part of the "Phase 2 V.I. Crime Initiative" arrested 37-year-old Corey Hunt of Estate Tutu, and charged him with possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, police spokesman Toby Derima has announced.

According to the V.I.P.D. news release, officers effected a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Hunt on Emile “Milo” Francis Drive. During the course of the traffic stop, he was found in possession of an illegal firearm, and was placed under arrest as a result.

St. Thomas-St. John District Police Chief Steven Phillip praised the officers of the initiative for the discovery of the firearm and the resulting arrest, according to Mr. Derima.

“We will continue to be proactive in reducing gun violence by finding illegal guns,” Chief Phillip stated. He urged the community to call the VIPD with information on crime by calling 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211, or Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-8477.

"Remember, if you see something, say something," said the V.I.P.D.
