ST. CROIX — Police Lieutenant Walton Jack was arrested for negligent driving and driving under the influence of an intoxicating liquor (DUI) after being involved in an automobile collision on Monday night, the V.I. Police Department has announced.

The collision occurred on Northside Road Route 75, close to the Chocolate Bar and Restaurant in La Grande Princess, the department said. A traffic officer was dispatched to the scene and found Lt. Jack to be intoxicated. Lt. Jack also failed the three standardized field sobriety tests administered by the officer.

At around 8:20 p.m., Lt. Jack was transported to the Ancilmo Marshall Command where he was arrested. He refused to submit to a chemical test of his breath, according to the VIPD. Lt. Jack posted $1,000 in cash and was later released pending his advice of rights hearing.

The VIPD's preliminary investigation revealed that Lt. Jack was driving negligently, leading to the collision.

Driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offense and can lead to dangerous situations on the road. The VIPD is urging everyone to never drink and drive, and always find a sober driver to avoid accidents and injuries.
