ST. CROIX — Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was found unresponsive Tuesday morning at a junkyard in Christiansted, according to information released by law enforcement.
The 911 Call Center received a report from a concerned citizen at approximately 8:19 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, regarding a man down at a junkyard located at #9 N Cottage, Christiansted. Fire and Emergency Medical Services were immediately dispatched to the location.
Upon arrival, emergency responders examined the individual and pronounced him dead at the scene. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau were also present as part of the initial response.
According to authorities, the lifeless body of the male individual was observed with an injury to his head. No additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the injury were released. VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte said detectives have not ruled out foul play, adding that reports the deceased may have been struck by heavy machinery remain under investigation.
At this time, officials are awaiting the identification of next of kin in order to make a positive identification before releasing the individual’s name.
Police indicated that further information will be provided as the investigation continues and once identification has been confirmed.
