ST. CROIX – Last week, Edwardo Garcia was arrested and charged for attempted murder after allegedly discharging several shots at his nephew's girlfriend during a physical altercation between the couple. On Wednesday, the nephew – Clemente Cintron III – was also charged for his role in the incident.
According to what the alleged victim told police, she and Cintron had gone out for drinks on January 2, 2026. The night turned sour, so she decided to drop her partner home. Her mother was also with them in the vehicle, so she first delivered Cintron to his residence and then turned towards her mother's house. Along the way, the woman realized that she had forgotten to get her house keys from her boyfriend, so she said she turned back.
According to court documents, the woman said when she returned to Cintron's home, she saw him and his mother outside having a conversation. Her boyfriend's mother reportedly made an untoward comment when the woman asked for her keys, and thus she responded. That reportedly prompted a physical altercation between girlfriend and Cintron's mother, which led to other family members getting involved.
Cintron's stepfather reportedly approached the vehicle with machete and wooden 2x4 beam in hand. He thrust the piece of wood towards the alleged victim, and she kicked it back towards him. That was when Garcia, Cintron's uncle, came towards the vehicle and started shooting. The woman said she quickly took evasive maneuvers while her boyfriend told her that she would die if she did not leave immediately.
The woman told police that she was able to escape the Upper Love residence, and when she reached the main road she dialed 911 to report the matter. Cintron reportedly approached the vehicle while the woman was on the phone with emergency services and began twisting her left wrist in an attempt to wrest control of the phone. The woman's boyfriend also reportedly tried to enter the vehicle and drive it away, but the woman said she was able to secure the key and prevent him from doing so. His final action was reportedly to damage the hinges of the passenger side door by opening it and slamming it closed several times.
Police arrested Cintron on Tuesday, charging him with simple assault and battery, destruction of property, and disturbance of the peace by threats, all as acts of domestic violence. He was also charged with damaging or tampering with a vehicle. Cintron is scheduled to appear before Magistrate Yolan Brow Ross this week for his advice of rights hearing.
