ST. CROIX — A 51-year-old man has been arrested on multiple domestic violence-related charges after allegedly assaulting his wife and destroying her clothing during a confrontation at their home Wednesday morning.
According to the V.I. Police Department, officers from the Patrol Division placed Samuel Menzies under arrest on November 5 at approximately 9:45 a.m. He was charged with simple assault and battery domestic violence and destruction to property domestic violence.
According to the VIPD, the incident began when the victim, who is married to Menzies, was preparing to leave for work. She told police that her husband confronted her about her attire, saying he felt it was inappropriate for her workplace.
According to the report, Menzies then entered the bedroom, grabbed his wife, and dragged her into the living room, where he threw her onto the couch and struck her on her forearms four times. The victim further stated that Menzies then picked her up, pulled her back into the bedroom, and used a pair of cutting shears to cut her leggings.
Fearing for her safety, the woman fled the home and ran to a neighbor’s residence, where she contacted police for help.
Officers later arrived at the scene, leading to Menzies’s arrest without incident. The case remains under investigation by the VIPD's Domestic Violence Unit.
