ST. CROIX — A shooting incident in Tide Village Thursday afternoon left one man injured, according to police spokesman Glen Dratte.

The incident, which occurred in the vicinity of the East Way Service Station about 1:59 p.m., prompted a lockdown of the nearby Pearl B. Larsen K-8 school, which is between 50 to 80 feet away from where the shooting took place. The lockdown has since been lifted.

Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the incident, and the victim was transported by ambulance to the Juan F. Luis Hospital where he was listed as being in stable condition, Mr. Dratte said.

On the scene of the shooting, V.I.P.D. officers and detectives were seen doing investigatory work, with several police vehicles coming to the area as part of the department's response. "At this time Criminal Investigation Bureau officers are still on the scene canvassing the area and conducting their investigation," Mr. Dratte said, adding that an update on the matter would be provided to the media.

The police department is asking anyone with information about this shooting to send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here.
