ST. CROIX — A man accused of repeatedly stabbing an adult male in November 2024 has been extradited back to St. Croix and formally charged following his apprehension in Puerto Rico, according to the V.I. Police Department.
The suspect, identified by VIPD as 39-year-old Juan Gabriel Cintron Rodriguez, was returned to the territory on Tuesday, February 17 after waiving extradition in Puerto Rico. He is now facing multiple felony charges connected to the November 16, 2024 assault.
According to the department’s release, the case began at approximately 8:47 p.m. on November 16, 2024, when the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched patrol officers to Juan F. Luis Hospital in reference to an assault. Officers made contact with the victim, described as an adult male, who reported that he had been stabbed several times by the suspect.

The investigation was referred to a detective with the Major Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Bureau. During the course of the investigation, authorities identified the suspect as Juan Gabriel Cintron Rodriguez, who had already fled the island and whose whereabouts were initially unknown.
On December 22, 2025, an arrest warrant was obtained from the Superior Court and entered into the National Crime Information Center (N.C.I.C.) system.
The VIPD reported that on January 18, 2026, Cintron Rodriguez was apprehended in Patillas, Puerto Rico, by the Puerto Rico Police Department. Four days later, on January 22, 2026, he waived extradition. He was subsequently transported back to St. Croix on February 17, 2026, with assistance from HIDTA personnel.
Following his return, Cintron Rodriguez was arrested and booked. He has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, first and third-degree assault, and carrying a dangerous weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Bail was set at $100,000.
Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing, scheduled for February 18, 2026, at the Superior Court.
The case remains part of an ongoing investigation by the Virgin Islands Police Department.
