ST. THOMAS — A man wanted in Miami-Dade County in Florida was arrested after being spotted at the Cyril E. King airport by Customs and Border Protection officials.

On Thursday, police were notified by CBP officers that there was a possible fugitive from justice at the airport. Abraham Matos Santos was detained while law enforcement verified that the warrant issued in Miami was indeed active.

Upon receiving confirmation of same, and learning that authorities in Miami were willing to extradite, Santos was arrested and taken into custody on charges of being a fugitive from justice. As ordered by the Miami-Dade county circuit judge who issued the warrant, no bail was offered for Santos, who is wanted on third-degree grand theft charges.

In court on Friday, defense counsel for Santos told Magistrate Paula Norkaitis that he had not yet decided whether he would waive extradition. The matter was continued to July 19, with Santos remaining in custody until that time.
