Scene of shooting in Gallows Bay Sunday afternoon.

ST. CROIX — V.I.P.D. officers are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday in the Gallows Bay business district that left one man injured in the lower torso, announced police spokesman Toby Derima.

Sunday's incident follows another Gallows Bay shooting that occurred last Tuesday, where a man identified as 23-year-old Michael Cruz of Sion Farm was shot multiple times and died on the scene. There was no indication that the two incidents were connected, said Mr. Derima.

According to the news release, on Sunday at roughly 5:07 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to a discharging of shots incident in the Gallows Bay business district. Officers traveled to the area and found a Black male with a gunshot injury. He was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital via ambulance for treatment of a gunshot wound to his lower torso, and was later released.

Mr. Derima said the investigation into this incident revealed that a silver 4-door Suzuki sedan, which was occupied by four male individuals wearing clown masks, drove up on the victim and fired multiple shots at him.

Detectives are urging anyone with additional information about this incident to call 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS. You may also submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI online here. "Remember, if you see something, say something," said the police force.
