ST. THOMAS — The V.I. Police Department is investigating a midday robbery at a Main Street jewelry store that left several display cases shattered and thousands of dollars in merchandise stolen, according to a police release.
Officers and detectives were dispatched to the Main Street area at approximately 12:26 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, after receiving reports of a robbery at Precious Jewels and Diamonds. Upon arrival, police made contact with the business owners and multiple witnesses who described the events that unfolded inside the store.
According to those accounts, multiple suspects wearing masks and dressed entirely in black entered the establishment, smashed glass display cases, and removed jewelry valued at several thousand dollars. After taking the items, the suspects fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction, witnesses told police.
At this time, the identities of the suspects have not been determined. Police said the individuals involved are considered armed and dangerous, and the case remains an active and ongoing investigation.
The robbery is being handled by the VIPD's Criminal Investigation Bureau, which is continuing to gather evidence and follow leads related to the incident.
The police department is urging anyone who may have information about the robbery to come forward.
