ST. CROIX — At least two shooting incidents affected St. Croix over the weekend, one resulting in injuries to one victim, while another saw stray bullets damaging the Glass 2000 building, a well-known business establishment in the territory.

Man Sustains Gunshot Wounds in Estate Strawberry Shooting

On September Saturday at 1:59 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of shots fired and a gunshot victim.

The 30-year-old male victim, passenger in a vehicle in Estate Strawberry, reported driving by two or three males standing near a tree who began firing at them. The driver tried to avoid the gunshots; however the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was dropped off at the Juan Luis Hospital & Medical Center for treatment.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, police detectives checked the surrounding area shortly thereafter, located the victim’s vehicle near the hospital with gunshot damage and two 17-year-old male occupants.

A firearm was also found, possibly hidden by the minors, Mr. Derima said. Both minors were detained for the Youth Investigation Bureau.

Glass 2000 Building Damaged

At least 20 rounds were fired during a Sunday night incident still under investigation that occurred in Little Princess (Five Corners).

The shooting incident badly damaged Glass 2000's building, with at least two of the gunshots compromising the impact-resistant glass. Bullets also damaged a company vehicle.

Calls were placed to the 911 Emergency Call Center regarding the shooting at about 10:40 p.m. No one was injured and police were investigating the matter.

The shootings on St. Croix follow a homicide Saturday afternoon that occurred in the Home Depot parking lot in St. Thomas, where a 20-year-old woman was shot to death. Police have in custody a suspect who was charged with first-degree murder Sunday.
