Man With Unlicensed Rifle Crashed Into Police Car and Refused to Stop. He Was Later Arrested and Charged.

ST. CROIX — Police officers on Monday at about 11:21 p.m. arrested Juan Garcia, age 59 of Tan Tan Terrace, and charged him with carrying a firearm openly or concealed and possession of ammunition, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.

Detectives were conducting a traffic stop in the eastbound lane of the Melvin Evans Highway, in the vicinity of Home Depot, when a vehicle driven by Garcia collided into their unmarked police car. Garcia did not stop after the collision, and the detectives pulled him over in the vicinity of the Ricardo Richards Elementary School.

The detectives observed a rifle in Garcia’s vehicle, and Garcia could not provide the detectives with a license for the firearm. He was placed under arrest as a result.

Unable to make bail of $50,000, Garcia was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.
