ST. THOMAS — United States Attorney Delia L. Smith announced today that 38-year-old Elvin Wrensford of St. Croix pleaded guilty before United States Magistrate Judge Emile Henderson, III to charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm in a school zone.

According to court documents, the incident occurred on May 10, 2012. Wrensford and Craig Muller were at Ben's Car Wash in St. Croix when they got into an argument with Gilbert Hendricks, Jr. Both Wrensford and Muller left the car wash but later returned to confront Hendricks, who tried to flee by running towards Food Town Supermarket. Wrensford then fired several shots at Hendricks from the passenger side of their vehicle. Hendricks died two days later from injuries sustained from being shot twice in the head.

Wrensford was apprehended within an hour of the shooting in Estate St. John, located approximately one and a half miles from the crime scene and just six feet away from a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Muller was captured several days later in Puerto Rico while on his way to New York. Forensic analysis linked the shell casings found at the crime scene to the firearm and vehicle used by Wrensford and Muller. The shooting occurred within 1,000 feet of St. Croix Christian Academy.

Sentencing for Wrensford is set for January 17, 2024. Craig Muller was convicted by a federal jury in March 2015 and is currently serving a life sentence.

The case was investigated by the Virgin Islands Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Rhonda Williams-Henry and Evan Rikhye.
