ST. CROIX — On St. Croix, a man refused to let a woman leave a home they were in, instead he allegedly raped, bit, beat and strangled her, allegedly abusing the victim for about 7 hours.

Rhasanie Hendrickson appeared before Magistrate Judge Ernest E. Morris, Jr. via teleconference from the Bureau of Corrections on Wednesday for his advisement hearing.

Hendrickson, age 20, was charged with the following: first-degree rape as an act of domestic violence (DV), first-degree assault /DV, second-degree assault / DV, third-degree assault / DV, false imprisonment or kidnapping/ DV, first-degree unlawful sexual contact/ DV, simple assault and battery/ DV, and disturbance of the peace by fighting.

On Sunday, August 22 roughly between the hours of 12:00 pm and 7:00 pm, according to the victim’s statement in the probable cause fact sheet, Hendrickson violated the victim. When she was ready to leave the residence with her friends to grocery shop, Hendrickson prohibited her from leaving the home. He then proceeded to threaten to kill her, call her derogatory names, push her, and strangle her with both hands.

The fact sheet said Hendrickson at a later point began to kick the victim repeatedly about her body. Later, he held her in a “choke lock” to the point that she went unconscious. Twice the victim recounted Hendrickson stating that she needed to die.

Hendrickson eventually left the home. At that point, the victim used her phone to send a text to a friend to call 911. It was at about 9:29 pm that the 911 Emergency Call center received a call from a female who reported that she received a text message from the victim stating that she was beaten by Hendrickson.

The victim sustained bite marks and bruises on various parts of her body.

Judge Morris ruled on the following release conditions:

  • Post a fully secured bail of $15,000
  • Not leave the STX district without prior written permission of the court
  • Surrender passport/ Prohibited from obtaining a passport
  • Maintain a minimum distance of 1000 feet from victim
  • No contact with witnesses or victims in this case
