ST. CROIX — A man was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital after he was shot in the parking lot of the Croixville Housing Community, the V.I. Police Department has announced.
According to police spokesman Glen Dratte, during the wee hours of Saturday morning, an adult female called the 911 Emergency Call Center and reported that her son was shot and that she was transporting him to the hospital.
Officers arrived at the hospital and started a preliminary investigation after speaking with the victim, who stated that on Saturday at around 12:30 a.m. he left a bar and traveled to Croixville Apartments. He further stated that as he turned into the southern entrance of the housing community and parked the vehicle by the garbage bin and exited, he heard several shots being fired prompting him to run for cover behind the garbage bin. While behind the bin, the victim realized he was struck by a bullet in his stomach and drove back to the bar to get help.
The victim was treated by emergency room attendants and was listed in fair but serious condition at this time, according to police.
