ST. THOMAS — A man who police say took more than $200,000 from two separate clients to assemble prefabricated homes in St. Thomas has been arrested after failing to complete the jobs, in what the V.I. Police Department has classified as a matter of fraud.

According to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte, on February 2 the Economic Crimes Unit initiated an investigation into multiple cases of reported obtaining money by false pretense incidents.

An investigation into the complaints revealed that Anson Gallaway, the owner of a construction company, intentionally took more than $200,000 from two separate victims to assemble prefabricated homes and did not fulfill the agreements.

Gallaway, age 45, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with obtaining money by false pretense, and grand larceny, pursuant to an arrest warrant issued by the V.I. Superior Court.

Gallaway posted bail of $51,000, and he was released pending his advisement hearing scheduled for Wednesday, according to the V.I.P.D.
