ST. CROIX — A man was injured by gunfire in the United Shopping Plaza's parking lot late Friday night, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.
According to the police report, on Friday at roughly 11:10 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of shots fired in the parking lot of the United Shopping Plaza. Officers arrived at the area and learned that a male victim was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center via private vehicle.
Mr. Derima said witnesses on the scene stated that a silver Ford Escape with no license plate came into the shopping center and traveled around the parking lot in the opposite direction of the flow of traffic. The passengers inside the Ford Escape opened fire on a group of individuals.
The victim received multiple gunshot injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was listed in stable condition.
This incident is under investigation. Police are urging anyone with information to call 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS.
