Man Sustains Gunshot Wounds by Shooter Seen Heading Into Bushes; Victim Taken to Hospital in Private Vehicle

ST. CROIX — A 27-year-old man told police Thursday he realized he had been wounded by gunfire while driving in Estate La Grange, and that he noticed an assailant hustling through nearby bushes.

According to a V.I.P.D. news release, the 911 Emergency Call Center received notification at about 9:55 a.m. Thursday. The male victim reported driving to his residence when he heard a gunshot coming from the rear of his vehicle in close proximity to his home. He noticed the rear windshield was damaged and realized he had been shot.

The victim made it to his residence and was able to call a friend who transported him to the Juan F. Luis Hospital where he was treated and released, reported V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima.

The suspect was seen fleeing into the bushes in the vicinity of Krystal Springs Water, and a white SUV was also observed driving recklessly in the area traveling south, stated the release.
