Man Shot Dead in Whim in What Police Believe to Be Ambush-Style Homicide

ST. CROIX — A man was shot dead in his yard in Estate Whim Saturday morning in what police believe to be an ambush-style killing.

According to police, the 911 Emergency Call Center received reports of the shooting at about 8:50 a.m. and immediately dispatched officers and emergency responders to the scene.

Upon officers' arrival, the victim was found on the ground in the yard appearing unresponsive and with multiple gunshot wounds about the body. A examination by emergency medical technicians found no vital signs, and the victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

Identified by next of kin as 40-year-old Ars Dale Ferdinand, the victim was said to be ambushed by assailants who opened fire as he left his home and was approaching his vehicle, according to police.
