Man Shot Dead in Market Square, St. Thomas, the First Homicide in USVI For 2023

ST. THOMAS — The V.I. Police Department on Sunday announced the first homicide in the U.S. Virgin Islands for 2023 following a shooting incident in Market Square, St. Thomas.

According to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte, on Sunday at about 12:45 a.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report from a concerned resident that a man had been shot in the area of Market Square.

Responding police units made contact with an unresponsive male, who appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds, the V.I.P.D. said.  Emergency Medical Technicians were also on the scene and attempted to render life-saving measures.

The male victim was transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center via ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

The male was identified as Marcos Antonio Benjamin Guerrero, a native of the Dominican Republic.
