ST. CROIX -- A man was shot at multiple times and sustained non-life threatening injuries while at the Gas for Less Service Station across from the Sunny Isle Shopping Center on Thursday afternoon, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima announced Tuesday.

Mr. Derima said officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 2:52 p.m. following a 911 emergency call center notification of discharging of shots incident.

The preliminary V.I.P.D. report states that the victim had just left a business near the gas station when he encountered four males outside the business. Words were exchanged between the victim and the four males when one of the males pulled out a firearm, Mr. Derima said. The victim stated that he attempted to leave the area quickly in his vehicle, and the male with the firearm began shooting at him. The victim said he then realized he had been shot and drove himself to the hospital.

This incident is currently under investigation, according to Mr. Derima.

The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact 911, or Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here.
