ST. THOMAS — Aubrey Frett, age 31 of St. Thomas was sentenced on Thursday to 18 months imprisonment after being convicted of possession of marijuana and crack cocaine with intent to distribute, announced U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert.
Frett was sentenced by District Court Judge Robert Molloy, who also ordered Frett to serve 3 years of supervised release, and to pay a fine of $1,000 and a $200 special assessment.
In September 2018, Frett was arrested in connection with the Hospital Ground murder of Jerome Turnbull. He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, according then-Police Commissioner Delroy Richards. Frett was also charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and first-degree reckless endangerment.
According to the trial record, members of the Virgin Islands Police Department were seeking to execute an arrest warrant on Frett when they spotted him under a car port in the area of Hospital Ground. A chase ensued and officers noticed Frett discard an object over a fence.
A search of the area discovered a firearm linked to Frett. Officers apprehended Frett and discovered baggies of marijuana and a vile containing crack cocaine.
On Jan. 24, a St. Thomas federal jury convicted Frett of the marijuana and crack cocaine offenses.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Virgin Islands Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Everard E. Potter.
