ST. THOMAS — A man has been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation after he allegedly attacked his father and sister.
David Prince Jr. was arrested on Wednesday morning after police were dispatched in regards to a report of a fight in progress. Upon arrival, they met a female victim who claimed that her brother David Prince Jr. assaulted her. According to the woman’s statement, she received a call from her father that morning, stating that he needed her help with her brother who had allegedly assaulted him.
She told police that she arrived at the home and when she approached the front door she observed her brother walking towards her. She recounted that as he got close to her Prince allegedly kicked her causing her to fall backwards down the stairs. She then got up and ran into the house, at which point a physical altercation ensued between the two of them. She further stated that her father stepped in between them to stop the fight.
When police spoke to the father, he stated that he saw his son sipping some juice and then throwing the remainder on the floor. He then observed his son opening several bottles of juice and advised him to stop wasting them. According to his statement, his son then walked toward him saying “stop [expletive] with me!” and began punching him repeatedly. He reportedly grabbed a nearby pipe to protect himself and his son subsequently walked out of the house. His daughter arrived shortly after, and he observed his son kicking her.
According to police, while an officer escorted Prince Jr. to the police car he told the officer to shoot him in the head. The officer advised him that he would not do so. The fact sheet further stated that when he was taken to the hospital to receive a Covid-19 test and receive treatment for injuries, Prince Jr. allegedly told the nurse that he wanted to cut his wrist.
Prince Jr. was charged with two counts of simple assault and battery, as well as two counts of disturbance of the peace. The crimes are categorized as acts of domestic violence.
At his advisement hearing on Friday, the judge ordered that Prince Jr. undergo a psychological evaluation prior to his release. She stressed that she does not want him to be on the street or be a danger to the community or himself. Once evaluated, Prince Jr. will be allowed to post 15 percent of bail which was set at $1,000. The defendant will then be released into the care of a relative who will serve as his third-party custodian. He is strictly prohibited from having any contact with his sister and father.
