Man Killed in Hospital Ground After Late-Night Shooting on St. Thomas

A Shot Spotter alert drew officers to Hospital Ground just before 11 p.m. on Dec. 7, where police found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to SRMC and later died, as the Major Crimes Unit urges anyone with information to come forward.

ST. THOMAS — A man was fatally shot in Hospital Ground late Sunday night, prompting an investigation by the V.I. Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit.

According to the VIPD, the incident was first detected at 10:47 p.m. on December 7 when the Shot Spotter Detection System alerted police to gunfire in the St. Thomas neighborhood.

Responding patrol officers from the Richard N. Callwood Command arrived in the area and found a Black male lying in the roadway. According to police, the man appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken by ambulance to Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities have not yet released his identity, noting that the name is being withheld until next of kin are notified.
