Man Hospitalized After Sustaining Multiple Gunshot Wounds During Smith Bay Shooting

ST. THOMAS — A man was said to be in stable condition at the Schneider Regional Medical Center on Tuesday morning after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds during a shooting that occurred in Smith Bay Monday night.

VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said that at approximately 8:35 p.m. Monday, the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to Smith Bay, in the vicinity of the Mango Tree Bar, in reference to shots being fired.

Shortly thereafter, officers were notified that there was a gunshot victim at the Roy L. Schneider Hospital.

The victim reported that he was driving westward in the area when someone in a silver vehicle traveling in the opposite direction fired shots at him. He said he continued driving until his vehicle stopped in the vicinity of Lake’s Chicken Fry. The victim further stated that an unknown individual transported him via private vehicle to the hospital.

He sustained two gunshot wounds during the incident and was in stable condition, according to Mr. Derima.
