ST. CROIX – A man accused of a violent stabbing incident that took place in 2020 has been extradited and arrested in St. Croix, the V.I. Police Department has announced. Roberto Marrero, 38, was returned to the island on Saturday after being detained in the state of Georgia for a separate matter.
On the night of December 27, local authorities were alerted to a stabbing at the Aqua Lounge Nite Club on Castle Coakley Road. Officers from the VIPD arrived at the scene and made contact with the victim, who had sustained multiple stab wounds. Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau took over the case for further investigation.
According to the subsequent investigation, Marrero was found to have been involved in a verbal altercation with the victim. This altercation escalated to violence when Marrero allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times. After the incident, he fled the scene and subsequently left the island of St. Croix, avoiding arrest.

An arrest warrant was signed by a magistrate judge of the V.I. Superior Court on June 22, 2022, and entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), a database used for tracking crime-related information. Marrero was finally detained on August 2, 2023, in the State of Georgia when an NCIC check revealed he was wanted in St. Croix for the 2020 stabbing.
Roberto Marrero waived his rights to fight extradition and was subsequently flown back to St. Croix on Saturday. Upon arrival, he was arrested and booked at the local police station. Unable to post the set bail amount of $250,000, Marrero was transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility. He is scheduled for an Advice of Rights Hearing at the Superior Court on Monday.
