Man Charged For Allegedly Raping Minor on Beach; Woman Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting Husband With Knife

ST. THOMAS — Along with the wave criminal events on St. Croix, the V.I.P.D. also announced incidents in St. Thomas. Below, two reported over the weekend.

St. Thomas Man Charged With Aggravated Rape of Minor

According to police spokesman Toby Derima, on Friday at 4:15 p.m., police arrested Jose Andres Rosario Espinal, age 38 of Estate Bovoni, on a warrant and charged him with first-degree aggravated rape, first-degree rape, unlawful sexual contact, aggravated child abuse, child abuse, and obscene and indecent conduct. 

Espinal is accused of sexually assaulting a minor on July 26 at Vessup Beach, Mr. Derima said.

Espinal was jailed pending his advisement hearing after failing to post $250,000.

Woman Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Husband With Knife 

On Sunday at 7:08 a.m., police arrested 61-year-old Marina Leatham of Smith Bay and charged her with first-degree assault, domestic violence.

Mr. Derima reported that Leatham was arrested after she assaulted her husband with a knife earlier that morning.

Leatham was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections without bail in accordance with the territory’s domestic violence laws, pending her advisement hearing, according to police.
