ST. CROIX — A man is facing felony domestic violence charges after police say he assaulted his girlfriend during an argument at his mother’s food truck earlier this month.
According to police, the alleged victim contacted authorities on January 20 and reported that the incident occurred earlier that day while she was working at a food van operated by the mother of her boyfriend, Elijah Drew.
The woman told officers that Drew arrived at the food truck and sat for some time before asking for food. She said she had already finished putting away leftovers and cleaning up, and expressed frustration with him for waiting until that point to make his request. The exchange reportedly escalated into an argument, during which Drew allegedly became verbally abusive.
During the dispute, the woman said Drew took her purse and removed an item from it. When she asked for her belongings to be returned and was refused, she said she took Drew’s vehicle key from inside his car. She told police that Drew then attacked her.
According to her account, Drew placed her in a choke hold and kicked and struck her while his mother attempted to intervene and pull him off.
Police said Drew’s mother corroborated the woman’s version of events and told officers that she encouraged her to report the incident.
When later questioned by police, Drew denied that any altercation occurred between him and his girlfriend. Despite his denial, he was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and simple assault and battery, both classified as crimes of domestic violence. He was also charged with disturbing the peace by fighting.
Court records indicate that Drew was scheduled to make his initial appearance before Magistrate Yolan Brow-Ross last week. As of press time, no additional updates were reflected in publicly available court records.
