ST. CROIX — A man was seen on surveillance camera making purchases at a number of businesses using the debit card of an elderly victim without permission.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, on Wednesday at roughly 5:51 p.m., Economic Crime Unit detectives arrested Jeffrey Jones, age 38 of Williams Delight, on a warrant issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands and charged him with obtaining money by false pretense, grand larceny and aggravated identity theft.
In a statement to detectives, Jones admitted using an elderly victim’s debit card without authorization on or about August 24, 2020. He was also observed on surveillance video making the unauthorized purchases.
Unable to make bail of $20,000, Jones was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
