A man from the Dominican Republic who was living in New York was arrested at the Cyril E. King Airport on Tuesday, after he was flagged as being a wanted man in the state of New York, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.

V.I.P.D. detectives with the Criminal Investigation Bureau were notified of a fugitive from justice, later identified as Marvin Jose Antonio Lantigua. Mr. Lantigua was attempting to pass through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection checkpoint at the airport when he was flagged.

Detectives detained Mr. Lantigua and transported him to the Alexander Farrelly Justice Complex, where they confirmed that the New York Department of Corrections and Community Supervision wanted to pursue charges against him. Mr. Lantigua is wanted for violating his supervised release after doing a term in prison for distribution of narcotics, Mr. Derima told the Consortium.

The suspect was then placed under arrest and turned over to the Bureau of Corrections to await an extradition hearing.

The V.I.P.D. is encouraging everyone with information on crimes to call 911, Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477, or the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211.
