ST. THOMAS — A man told police he was beaten with a metal pipe in the head and shot in the torso by two male suspects, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.
The incident, which occurred on July 1, resulted in the victim being hospitalized for his injuries. At the time, he was listed as being in stable condition.
According to Mr. Derima, the 911 Emergency Call Center received notification of the crime at 8:30 p.m. July 1 and immediately dispatched officers to the Schneider Regional Medical Center Emergency Room where they met the gunshot victim.
The victim said he arrived at his residence in Hospital Ground and observed two males dressed in dark clothing sitting outside, according to the police report. The victim further stated that one of the suspects approached him in a threatening manner and an altercation ensued between him and both suspects. The suspects assaulted the victim with a metal pipe to the head during the altercation, then shot him in the torso, police said.
The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to contact police by calling 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211 extension 5610, or Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS.
