ST. THOMAS — A man barricaded himself inside his home in an attempt to avoid being arrested and charged with illegal discharging of a firearm, after he was identified as the person who had fired gunshots in the air while at the Alvin McBean Ballpark in Anna's Retreat on Saturday.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, on Saturday at around 10:15 p.m., police arrested Rashad Amari Creque, age 23 of Estate Contant, and charged him with illegal discharge of a firearm.

At approximately 9:50 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to the Alvin McBean Ballpark in Anna’s Retreat on report of shots being fired. Spent casings were found in the area, and a witness reported that a male, later identified as Creque, was waving a firearm and being belligerent, Mr. Derima said. The witness also said that Creque fired shots in the air. Officers located Creque and ordered him to surrender, but he barricaded himself in his residence. Officers were able to enter the residence, and they apprehended Creque.

Unable to make bail of $25,000, Creque was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.

This case is presently under investigation, Mr. Derima said.  Anyone with any information regarding this crime is urged to contact 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211 extension 5579 or Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-8477.
