The V.I. Police Department has reported arrests in two separate criminal cases involving domestic violence and robbery.
On Friday, May 31, in St. Croix, 29-year-old Haakim Gordon was arrested after a domestic dispute turned violent. The 911 Emergency Call Center received a distress call from a female victim at approximately 7:49 p.m., who reported that Gordon had assaulted and strangled her while she was holding their infant child.
The victim described an argument that escalated, during which Gordon allegedly strangled her, pulled her hair, and squeezed her face and wrist, leaving visible injuries.
Gordon declined to provide a statement to the police and was charged with second-degree assault, and simple assault and battery. He is currently held at the John Bell Correctionial Facility awaiting his Advice of Rights hearing.
In a separate incident on January 14, 2024, in St. Thomas, Amon-Re Smith was identified as a primary suspect in a robbery that occurred in Estate Solberg.
According to the victim's report to the police, two masked men dressed in black approached him and forcibly took his jewelry. The investigation revealed that Smith, 23, was the driver during the crime. He was apprehended on May 31 at Cyril E. King Airport as he attempted to leave the island.
Customs agents detained Smith, who was then arrested by VIPD officers. Smith faces multiple charges, including first and third-degree robbery, grand larceny, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, first and third-degree assault, and constructive possession of a firearm.
His bail was set at $75,000, and he is also being held pending his Advice of Rights hearing.
