ST. THOMAS — A St. Thomas man struck a woman on the head with a bottle after she broke up with him outside a bar in St. Thomas earlier this month, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.
The man, identified as 42-year-old John Huyghue, Jr., turned himself in on Monday after learning that he was being sought by police. He was charged with third-degree assault.
According to Mr. Derima, On Feb. 16 the victim reported to police that she was at Classico Bar located in Savan when Huyghue approached her. The victim added that she and Huyghue stepped outside the bar, where she had a conversation with him and ended their relationship. The victim said she then went back inside the bar and was followed by Huyghue, who then struck her in the head with a bottle, grabbed her by her hair and pushed her to the ground.
The victim sustained minor injuries but declined medical attention, according to police.
Unable to make bail of $15,000 offered at his advisement hearing, Huyghue was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections.
