ST. CROIX — A man who was asleep in his vehicle in Downtown Christiansted in the wee hours of Thursday morning — around 2:30 a.m. — was assaulted at gunpoint by an unknown assailant, who dragged the victim out of his vehicle, jumped in the driver's seat and fled the scene.

That's according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, who said the incident was reported to the V.I.P.D.'s Ancilmo Marshall Command in Christiansted at about 2:43 a.m. Thursday.

According to the police report, the male victim reported that he was asleep in his vehicle that was parked on King Street. He was awakened by an unknown individual wearing a ski mask, who opened the car door and pointed a gun at him. The suspect pulled the victim out of the vehicle onto the ground, got into the vehicle and drove off.

The incident remains under investigation, Mr. Derima said. The V.I.P.D. did not say whether the victim's vehicle had been found, nor did the police force provide a description of the vehicle.

If you have any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect, contact the V.I.P.D. at 340-778-4950, or contact Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip through this link.
