ST. THOMAS — Police are investigating a shooting in the Hospital Ground area after a ShotSpotter alert reported a single gunshot and a man later arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound, according to the V.I. Police Department.
The VIPD said the incident occurred on Saturday when the department’s Patrol Division responded to an alert from ShotSpotter indicating a single gunshot detected in the vicinity of Hospital Ground. Shortly afterward, police said, a male victim arrived at the hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body.
In response, the VIPD dispatched the Criminal Investigation Bureau, which made contact with the victim. However, the department said the individual chose not to disclose any details about the incident.
Police said the Criminal Investigation Bureau is continuing to investigate and is asking for assistance from the public. Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact 911 or the Virgin Islands Police Department at 340-774-2211. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Police said all information provided will remain confidential and thanked the community for its cooperation in maintaining safety and security in the territory.
